Can Sapphire change the colour by heat? Which chemicals are use for change colour of Sapphire?

Of cource, Sapphire can change the colour by heat. The reason is rechange of the impurity ions at crystal. But it is not the chemical process, but physical. And I didn't hear about using of the chemicals for such change of the color. You can have a different color if you will be to add the different impurties to the sapphire by growing. For example, the doping by Cr3+ white sapphire you will be to have in result Ruby (red colour).
